Miranda joined the cooperative family five months ago during the spring maple sugaring season. She quickly got to work getting our e-commerce platforms set up, and hasn’t slowed down since. Since then, she has become an indispensable part of the Maple Valley Cooperative family. Her organization skills paired with her passion for helping others makes her an ideal team member. Read on to find out how she found herself with the title of E-Commerce, Customer Service, & Projects Specialist here at Maple Valley and what she hopes the future will bring!
Before she took on her role here at Maple Valley, Miranda worked as a Universal Banker for a large bank in Minnesota while she earned her accounting & business degrees. After living in Minnesota for six years, she decided it was time to move back home to be closer to her family. In November of 2017, she returned to Cashton and started the long application process at a local bank. Her goal was a future in banking, something she really enjoyed.
It was during this time that Miranda stumbled upon Maple Valley’s job listing online. Her interest was piqued as she lived only a few blocks from the cooperative. As she read the listing, she found herself even more intrigued by the variety of tasks the position involved. Excited about the challenge of something new, she decided to send in an application. A few weeks later she was offered the job, on the same day that the bank offered her a job. It was time to make a choice.
Making a Choice
Lured by the proximity to her family, and the ability to help people in a tangible way, Miranda decided to take the job at Maple Valley. She quickly realized the had made the right choice. “Everyone was very welcoming and I had a really good vibe. I didn’t understand everything right away, but I picked up quickly because of all the help and willingness from my co-workers to teach me. I was impressed with how relaxed the environment was and how productive everyone was. Each day, I left feeling accomplished, but not overwhelmed.”
Since starting here, Miranda’s role has expanded to include a variety of projects and responsibilities. Like everyone here, she wears many hats. With e-commerce, she sells our products on Amazon, eBay, & Jet. This includes awareness of pricing, customer service, ads, and managing our online sales and listings. While she is in the office, she is also responsible for customer service. She takes phone calls, helps phone customers, answers questions and concerns via email, and assists walk-in customers. Additional projects have included coming up with packaging solutions for Master Cleanse kits and updating contact lists.
What the Future Holds
In the future she hopes her role continues to grow and evolve along with the online shopping market and the cooperative itself. She would also like to increase her hours as her responsibilities continue to grow. She hopes to unify all selling platforms and focus more on other things.
When Miranda is not at work, she prioritizes time with her family. She and her boyfriend Dennis and their dogs Baby & Tucker spend as much time outdoors as possible. They can typically be found in their pool or hot tub, riding their 4-wheelers, grilling, going to car races, playing corn-hole, canoeing or tubing, fishing, or enjoying a bonfire. They are also in the process of remodeling their future home and helping to plan her sister’s wedding.
“Family is my number one value, and I feel like my co-workers here are my work family. The cooperative and organic environment is a one of a kind camaraderie. […] Organic is extremely important to me because of my own health issues. […] I understand the importance of feeding our bodies good, healthy, natural things.” – Miranda
